SciencePoles recently interviewed Dr Charles Randell, Vice-President of C-CORE (a global corporation providing innovative engineering solutions to clients), about the development of Polar View.


November 15, 2005 - Finnish Institute of Marine Research joins Polar View to offer new European ice related services

The European Space Agency (ESA) has chosen Polar View, lead by the Canadian organization C-CORE, as one of its GMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security) projects. Polar View, a continuation of the ICEMON and Northern View projects, intends to have a number of EO services fully operational by 2008. Approximately 30 institutions from nine countries are currently participating in Polar View. In addition to being one of the Polar View service providers, the Finnish Institute of Marine Research (FIMR) will also act as regional manager for Polar View's Baltic node. A number of other Finish organizations are also participating in Polar View, including the Finnish Meteorological Institute, Helsinki Technical University, the Finnish Environment Institute and the Technical Research Centre of Finland.
