Event: 2030
North - A National Planning Conference Co-hosted by the Canadian Arctic Resources Committee (CARC), Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK) and the University of Calgary's Centre for Military and Strategic Studies (CMSS), 2030 North - A National Planning Conference will be held in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, 1-4 June 2009. Canada is waking up to the reality of a North transformed by climate change, challenges to northern sovereignty, and rapidly increasing natural resource exploration and development. 2030 NORTH will assemble the best data and expertise about the north to create the first comprehensive picture of the Arctic 20 years from now - and beyond.
Every second year since 1971 this conference on ice and cold regions engineering has provided an outstanding forum for discussion of new developments and research findings. Typically, there are about 150 participants at the conference presenting and discussing papers related to many ice engineering topics. Some of these topics include changing ice conditions, icebreaking technology, operations in the Arctic and shipping in ice-covered waters. [For more information please visit: www.ltu.se]
IAMAS, IAPSO and IACS invite the international atmospheric, oceanographic and cryospheric research communities to their 2009 Joint Assembly to be held in July 2009 in Montréal, Québec. The theme of the Assembly is Our Warming Planet. In addition to Association-specific symposia, the National Organizing Committee (NOC) is pleased to announce that a series of joint symposia will be held to explore convergent points of interest between disciplines. The International Symposium on Glaciology in the International Polar Year will be held at Northumbria University in Newcastle, United Kingdom, 27-31 July 2009. This is the only IGS Symposium focussed specifically on IPY. It will foster cross-disciplinary understanding and include a significant outreach component.This conference will bring together polar scientists engaged in fieldwork, monitoring and modelling activities to assess the state of our knowledge of the glaciology of the Polar Regions at the end of IPY.
